Today's post is going to be brief, but hopefully inspiring. Lately, I can't stop thinking about how many people are out there, just existing, doing what they do, without thinking about what they want to do. Or, if they are thinking about what they want to do, they're restricted by their own rules about how life is meant to go. Only other people get to succeed, to create, to be happy. Or, maybe they think that a good life is good enough. I'm not saying it isn't, but on the other hand, it's your one shot: Why not make it worth your while? Your life is going to cost you your life, after all.
Now, I'm not a huge celebrity follower, but every now and then, I feel like someone gets it right. For example, in Ashton Kutcher's acceptance speech on this year's Teen Choice Awards (I swear I didn't see this live), he makes some really valuable points. I hope some of the audience present were able to take it in, but I think they may have been too busy swooning.
Here you go:
His three points?
- Opportunity looks like hard work.
- Be sexy, and nothing is sexier than intelligence.
- Build a life, don't just live it.
When it comes to life, many of us are out there just trying to survive it. Yup, I included myself in that sweeping generalization. Sometimes, it feels like I just can't make what I want into something real. Living somewhere between the past and "someday", we're just surviving in the present. That's a trick, though: No one survives life, in the end. We come into this beautiful, wonderful world and we go out of it, too, in a flicker of history. Your life is literally your once-in-a-lifetime chance to LIVE. To create a life that is beautiful and of your own making.

Build your life. It's yours to build.
Are you building your life, or are you just living it? What's one thing you've always wanted to do? What's stopping you from doing it?
